It hangs like a misshapen sack, but it looks good on, or at least I think so.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEwklN3dUQdDtWAOTDl1kGRzxLw_L4oYQALvFYOVdcWYwJUajvIZgiM_5BOkjGW9YpweVbYWcHS2yk0ujkl54XoqZHFlgHvXXbD7SqzWPMyOr6utVTbUmz5n2BCo-JN2DuQmAgMTSLEQ/s1600/P4160003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEwklN3dUQdDtWAOTDl1kGRzxLw_L4oYQALvFYOVdcWYwJUajvIZgiM_5BOkjGW9YpweVbYWcHS2yk0ujkl54XoqZHFlgHvXXbD7SqzWPMyOr6utVTbUmz5n2BCo-JN2DuQmAgMTSLEQ/s1600/P4160003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
It's Kwik Sew 3334, which I've made a couple of times over the years. I like the shorter, fitted shape and I love the rounded shawl collar. This kind of jacket is great for my face shape and I chose it for this collection as I think the higher collar tops sit nicely under it and the shape of the neckline matches those on the top and dresses.<br />
<br />
For a pop of colour and to add some weight to the body, I lined it with leftover geometric print from the dress. I had hoped to have enough for another top but there was barely enough to do this.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisN2CYa2vkebFKmAQFdrzAZEDN5yK-LPGw7x3bJ4oC9uvU96f1WyM6QUIcI6-FTIEc9yHhs9-NcPgKe4kZvFYXEObHlxn2oDe45-AXk5wnoGfaSNG_VF7jEXYava2bckA-OxjaySe3uw/s1600/P4160004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisN2CYa2vkebFKmAQFdrzAZEDN5yK-LPGw7x3bJ4oC9uvU96f1WyM6QUIcI6-FTIEc9yHhs9-NcPgKe4kZvFYXEObHlxn2oDe45-AXk5wnoGfaSNG_VF7jEXYava2bckA-OxjaySe3uw/s1600/P4160004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
So that's another 11 piece SWAP collection added to my wardrobe and I've even worn some of the pieces already. I am absolutely thrilled with these garments and I think this is the most cohesive collection I have ever made, which is pretty good considering I didn't plan it, didn't think I'd take part this year and made it up as I went along! For the first time, there is not one garment that will languish, as there has been in other SWAPs I've sewn. Perhaps I've been overthinking it all these years!<br />
Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11274649006496918800noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-288557062866975359.post-6359629755814972822015-04-19T16:57:00.002+10:002015-04-19T16:57:50.664+10:00The Home Stretch...I've made the two final tops for my SWAP. Funnily enough, the last one was not one I even intended to make, but it fits the plan better than the my original idea, or at least I think so.<br />
<br />
First up is the top Burda 05-109-103 which is the same pattern as the pink geometric dress from last week. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl7YPVWhbXZvf53i14xmTBiA1lbOW6xs31Ia6UNzxwr2oYChZyWxPPcc92KPdU8HiWeVyGABoycyzJtpqzZoVJ7LAxMqUOtuF86zDeQlFR2ylg3plzWWQY9HcusZXoI8R8G6eA8okSjQ/s1600/P4080003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl7YPVWhbXZvf53i14xmTBiA1lbOW6xs31Ia6UNzxwr2oYChZyWxPPcc92KPdU8HiWeVyGABoycyzJtpqzZoVJ7LAxMqUOtuF86zDeQlFR2ylg3plzWWQY9HcusZXoI8R8G6eA8okSjQ/s1600/P4080003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I lined it with a leftover from the geometric dress to and piped the waist band to tie it in with the initial other things in the collection. The pink knit I used for the piping is leftover from a dress and top I made for the original Shetland Collection. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyfS3u9Ilmm3gbuqYcAnkLbMoFQLoRBOXbRM6M7Bln3XJn44wq3XCDnnnR-N8eoeF4yZ576GuMMUMcuX3kEAcIWJqJGu2qvGv9NwPIM4zTq1tUbOahMRs2ufgnoOM4crMKM9iznT6hpg/s1600/P4080004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyfS3u9Ilmm3gbuqYcAnkLbMoFQLoRBOXbRM6M7Bln3XJn44wq3XCDnnnR-N8eoeF4yZ576GuMMUMcuX3kEAcIWJqJGu2qvGv9NwPIM4zTq1tUbOahMRs2ufgnoOM4crMKM9iznT6hpg/s1600/P4080004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So with the pink knit sitting around as I sewed, I started to think that maybe I should use it up. Whilst rummaging in my pattern box for a jacket pattern (which I only found today) I came across Burda 8715, which is one of the first patterns I ever bought. The skirt pattern was the base for my TNT pencil skirt and I've made the jacket twice before, but I've never made the top.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7l98Q4d_bO29a2fyr4iXkE12ZBPpBrCEc496uBOWu4idl-OQunPxqfH_QX-u8YefmhBdw6DKYKtYcq8MjRgY_WRGD1tg8bGGSXN_2-Er1fC089brSAylkJdreBlDJnfNb_2NVhc2H8g/s1600/P4090007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7l98Q4d_bO29a2fyr4iXkE12ZBPpBrCEc496uBOWu4idl-OQunPxqfH_QX-u8YefmhBdw6DKYKtYcq8MjRgY_WRGD1tg8bGGSXN_2-Er1fC089brSAylkJdreBlDJnfNb_2NVhc2H8g/s1600/P4090007.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I thought the high collar tied in well with the collar of the pink spotty blouse from last week. It actually looks way better on than it does on Vera and it gives two very different looks when tucked in or left out. This was a real surprise to me and I'm so glad I made it.<br />
<br />

<br />
To give myself an idea of whether or not the collection worked together and whether or not they worked with the fabric I have for the final garment, I laid them all out (still unpressed) on the bed to see how they look. Overall I'm pretty pleased and now just have to decide on the final pattern!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are some hasty and very bad pictures of my SWAP so far. This blouse is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/Archives_des_magazines/129_Chemisier/1270777-1463237-1767442-1767501-1767597.html" target="_blank">BWOF 05-10-129</a>. I've made this twice before but this time I left off the breast pockets and flaps. In addition, I lengthened both the bodice and the peplum by 2.5cm each. You will recognise this fabric from the waistband facings and pocket bags of the skirt and shorts in my previous post.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Next up is a wildcard which is BWOF 05-09-103, which I've also made twice before. I love, love, love this dress!</div>

<br />
<br />
I dived deep into the Burda collection for this blouse. It's so old, the Burda website doesn't go back this far. It's BWOF 10-03-123 and I was surprised to realise I've been buying the magazine for this long!<br />

I have one more top in production but I just ran out of energy to cut it finished today. After that all I need is one more top and one more wildcard and SWAP will be DONE for 2015!</div>
<br />Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11274649006496918800noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-288557062866975359.post-86866563266273651832015-04-03T17:10:00.000+11:002015-04-03T17:10:02.165+11:00SWAP is gathering momentum...It's funny how this SWAP has come together. I had no plan, no idea at all of what I would make yet it is turning into the most cohesive collection I have made in my entire sewing career. Nothing I'm making is earth shattering or life changing or even challenging. Rather it represents a shift in my fundamental and instinctive understanding of what makes a capsule wardrobe work.<br />
<br />
Sew, with that in mind, I present the most recent additions.<br />
<br />
These shorts are BWOF <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/Archives_des_magazines/Short_113_B/1270777-1463237-1717681-1717683-1719095.htm" target="_blank">07-09-113</a> and originally were cuffed but I chose to make them without cuffs this time. I've made these twice before and it's a great pattern; simple and fits well. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWYK734c6VEoFJtahW6kGTEw_cfZbasNKzKYBs7nDRWmH9DRyJ_N3Xexz377xngzd6G-gOsYw_LRmuHk9u8C3syBy2Rslzxs48BDOmj7M3yR7zfMM0vKbEnDUjepnVr4LG5lmzd2lnUw/s1600/P3050001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWYK734c6VEoFJtahW6kGTEw_cfZbasNKzKYBs7nDRWmH9DRyJ_N3Xexz377xngzd6G-gOsYw_LRmuHk9u8C3syBy2Rslzxs48BDOmj7M3yR7zfMM0vKbEnDUjepnVr4LG5lmzd2lnUw/s1600/P3050001.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've made them from silver sateen leftover from the dress in my last post. I've also piped the pockets so they tie in with the dress.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivtSeYDYTKgdrBjA5rbMvXVTTGme02GmBJw0Yi62EA8T9Hi9fBjXY3pq7jRJ60ew5hngVdL5M3ufYyg8in6qcm9c4xfLB2NbjXCjaTw7Q47gz7vyGgn7Ht-aECmHTDjMpUkM7Ge-BUFQ/s1600/P3050002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivtSeYDYTKgdrBjA5rbMvXVTTGme02GmBJw0Yi62EA8T9Hi9fBjXY3pq7jRJ60ew5hngVdL5M3ufYyg8in6qcm9c4xfLB2NbjXCjaTw7Q47gz7vyGgn7Ht-aECmHTDjMpUkM7Ge-BUFQ/s1600/P3050002.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The waistband facing and pocket bags are made from an animal print cotton that I used to make a dress some years ago. It's hard to tell from these pictures but there is a lot of grey in the print so they go well with the sateen. Remember this fabric, you will see it again!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMkP9rbJjxvuUNlCbzpKAXTvpRJ0fknVr_ckwSDTVcX2QnEMo_GXjFSUU43TW3jKczSYIUa__mzVtVjrGtyLVUyi-XgSQcD8g0k_EY10vE0s0YNnt9NJ9-sVyKWBPtcsNrHN2_m06-aw/s1600/P3050003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMkP9rbJjxvuUNlCbzpKAXTvpRJ0fknVr_ckwSDTVcX2QnEMo_GXjFSUU43TW3jKczSYIUa__mzVtVjrGtyLVUyi-XgSQcD8g0k_EY10vE0s0YNnt9NJ9-sVyKWBPtcsNrHN2_m06-aw/s1600/P3050003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
One final garment from the sateen is BWOF <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/Archives_des_magazines/104_B_Jupe/1270777-1463237-1764727-1764795-1764945.html" target="_blank">02-10-104</a> and I've made this several times before also. Pockets are piped like the shorts and the waistband and pocket bags are the same animal print as the shorts. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUxZbXBr-K478tqTak-KsOT-FxkUYc68D0lDLwiYqzPDvFo-OnEsL58xcrZ0puRkpvLBrOddwlfZ1352AplrHkdlL4kCrlYbP7G4FIdcWxBPRnSQUmRKGrCYizJyfqt2xbLMpKz-txnA/s1600/P3110013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUxZbXBr-K478tqTak-KsOT-FxkUYc68D0lDLwiYqzPDvFo-OnEsL58xcrZ0puRkpvLBrOddwlfZ1352AplrHkdlL4kCrlYbP7G4FIdcWxBPRnSQUmRKGrCYizJyfqt2xbLMpKz-txnA/s1600/P3110013.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Coming up next is the five tops I'm making to go with these two bottoms. I just need to come up with two more items and my SWAP will be done!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy Easter one and all!</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8hsNAd-EFITU2z8eSbN8dWkJcW94OxNzNSGIELIEukFfmYxjBIPMr1HW5fq1_fRamr10JBl85Rz7-8MXpnHi9H0gIdVYtTaBOXDPahHlWe-hsJeeNt9JgLF6jbC3qVMAnt_ADA7UKiQ/s1600/P2260001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8hsNAd-EFITU2z8eSbN8dWkJcW94OxNzNSGIELIEukFfmYxjBIPMr1HW5fq1_fRamr10JBl85Rz7-8MXpnHi9H0gIdVYtTaBOXDPahHlWe-hsJeeNt9JgLF6jbC3qVMAnt_ADA7UKiQ/s1600/P2260001.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Making this dress was a spur of the moment thing. I had pulled this fabric out of stash late last year with a view to including it in my Shetland Collection, but I didn't know what to do with it. It's a silver grey sateen I bought many years ago for a long forgotten SWAP. Needless to say, it never got used. It's been sitting in a pile since then and last week I decided to make a dress out of it. To make things easy, I chose a pattern I've already fitted to me/</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8787-products-16429.php?page_id=857&search_control=display&list=search" target="_blank">Vogue 8787</a> and I've made this once before a couple of years ago in black velvet. I thought the grey looked a little bland on its own so I decided to pipe the waistband with black satin piping.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRe9N1pT0LXstFCcfkXkHzzUJU3AiIW7rWADcK5pFNHudjiIlHdYIb7TLkuVpV3zt5HVg9lfc2PJIu9DZQ_po6Xm5kikv-JC9c4xTTM5N0aWCBOWsSqxMogYF12Oh-HcGIdVhAZRoSZQ/s1600/P2260002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRe9N1pT0LXstFCcfkXkHzzUJU3AiIW7rWADcK5pFNHudjiIlHdYIb7TLkuVpV3zt5HVg9lfc2PJIu9DZQ_po6Xm5kikv-JC9c4xTTM5N0aWCBOWsSqxMogYF12Oh-HcGIdVhAZRoSZQ/s1600/P2260002.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I trawled my stash and found this funky poly satin leftover from lining a red skirt and jacket made at about the same time as the original version of this dress.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmtsDBKweTh6Rx46d-b0pGnBlVWrg1KgZJfh-5mhvTdkeL8KNT1-sZbNRDF6bgXb0bQIMAuaKMuwUvEiAmWZf2wKcIW2AqLngkn-tYF0Vb2ZCQMitkEKpWFBhZeiLeQ_5yceufHN1_Rg/s1600/P2260003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmtsDBKweTh6Rx46d-b0pGnBlVWrg1KgZJfh-5mhvTdkeL8KNT1-sZbNRDF6bgXb0bQIMAuaKMuwUvEiAmWZf2wKcIW2AqLngkn-tYF0Vb2ZCQMitkEKpWFBhZeiLeQ_5yceufHN1_Rg/s1600/P2260003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So where's the SWAP, you may well ask? I had so much of this fabric left that I cut out a pair of shorts and an a line skirt. While I was working on the shorts today, I spied a length of leftover piping and realised I could pipe the pockets. Then my brain starting ticking over...the skirt I've cut also has slant hip pockets...I could pipe those, too. So the grey shorts and skirt, coupled with the black sateen skirt I made a couple of weeks ago are now the bottoms of my SWAP. I have another skirt cut out that could possibly go in as a wild card, but we shall see. In the meantime, I'm busy choosing patterns from which to make some tops that will go with these garments.</div>
<br />Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11274649006496918800noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-288557062866975359.post-53859718618986966832015-03-01T21:45:00.005+11:002015-03-01T21:45:39.934+11:00Going dotty...I seem to have given up on my SWAP sewing because this weeks garments don't go with anything I've sewn so far. In dredging through my sewing room the other day I came across an inspiration picture I ripped out of a magazine a couple of years ago. The spots on the original dress were bigger but I had fabric in my stash and a pattern that approximated the one in the picture and I was in the mood for combining the two, so this jumped to the head of the queue.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<u><span style="color: #0066cc;"></span></u><br /></div>
The dress is <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6699-products-44755.php?page_id=96" target="_blank">M6699</a> which is apparently now OOP. I made this dress the Christmas before last out of a retro Christmas print (and never blogged) and it just needed a little tuck taken in the neckline as the shoulders were a little wide for me and I left off the pockets and silly contrast on the vent, but otherwise I made it as per the pattern. I cut a 10 on top graded to a 12 at the hips. McCalls aren't a great fit for my shape, but this works out OK.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I take great delight in getting extra garments out of my leftovers and I found I had enough to squeeze out a top made from <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1100-products-9760.php?page_id=863" target="_blank">V1100</a>, which I think is still in print, which surprises me as it's been in my collection for at least 5 years. I've made this as dress at least four times, but never as a top. Vogue patterns fit me quite well, straight out of the pack and I always start with a 10 on top grading to a 12 at the hips. I've lined it with some leftover white bemberg, but the inside looks terrible, so no pics of this one!<br />

In need of a summer weight black skirt, I hunted it out and put it together over the weekend. It's <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/103_B_Jupe_Schema_du_modele/1437260-1777126-1777130-1777184-1777225.html" target="_blank">BWOF 03-11-103</a> that I've made at least 4 times before. This is made in my favourite fabric, sateen. It hasn't photographed very well, I'm afraid.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiV0wyruX14Co99Y3PkoNaCTgFaGEkfzROHTtz3hRyzzegJTXmc_T8uzS5DPSm_BiERevazdSpXYb9TNzRK1d6NXNjaK2svLVPq0KILPDdLwdjv65AjTDzpnlQp8d61_isGGSHyyUK6g/s1600/P2070001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiV0wyruX14Co99Y3PkoNaCTgFaGEkfzROHTtz3hRyzzegJTXmc_T8uzS5DPSm_BiERevazdSpXYb9TNzRK1d6NXNjaK2svLVPq0KILPDdLwdjv65AjTDzpnlQp8d61_isGGSHyyUK6g/s1600/P2070001.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love the darts at the back and the way it cups the derriere. Sadly, as Vera has no buttocks, it just hangs on her. I, on the other hand, have Italian mama hips!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've lined it with black silk (I was gifted a roll of it years ago and it just seems to never run out) and the inside waistband is cut from leftovers from a dress I made a few years ago. Of course, I've added one of my labels. This may be a SWAP addition.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up and also from the depths of my sewing room is a dress I cut out last summer. The fabric came from a skirt I bought at an op shop maybe ten years ago. I'm sure it was one of those primary school sewing projects that anyone who was at school in the 60's and 70's would remember. A dirndl style skirt gathered onto a waistband. This was ankle length which gave me acres of fabric. In my mind, I remembered cutting an entirely different dress so was surprised to find I had cut out <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v1241-products-14152.php?page_id=942&search_control=display&list=search" target="_blank">Vogue 1241.</a> Funny, as I have absolutely no recollection of even pulling the pattern out of the pack!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can't express how much I love this dress. I cut a 10 on top, grading to a 12 at the hips, as I usually do for Vogue patterns.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOLB1zsG9I_UZx_Dz4ghB-DFfA1i0wd-gdtQmIl9lcXchXXVYxHvcP1dKaZDiSE545AKtPZE_tA8ZsTxwTGwC3tWYTotQE27a52eYnwgVfMBsg8OQnZgi5frnPE-YxWnpGEVCFQarS0Q/s1600/P2100009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOLB1zsG9I_UZx_Dz4ghB-DFfA1i0wd-gdtQmIl9lcXchXXVYxHvcP1dKaZDiSE545AKtPZE_tA8ZsTxwTGwC3tWYTotQE27a52eYnwgVfMBsg8OQnZgi5frnPE-YxWnpGEVCFQarS0Q/s1600/P2100009.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrYNOMbpNl9-4o7finHpWSXqzCvs1AQECH1lWgX1rCkd3n5TI_mOHDwYPzOWlsrVCoUfEYnHQJzpausipseCY4TUZnldmuvj4Ia02NXtw4Yd10vMJqJHF3P5r5826pWGsySz1iov4g9w/s1600/P2100008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrYNOMbpNl9-4o7finHpWSXqzCvs1AQECH1lWgX1rCkd3n5TI_mOHDwYPzOWlsrVCoUfEYnHQJzpausipseCY4TUZnldmuvj4Ia02NXtw4Yd10vMJqJHF3P5r5826pWGsySz1iov4g9w/s1600/P2100008.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I lined it with a lemon bemberg leftover from a project many years ago and added another of my labels. The busy pattern means you can't really see the gathers or the crossover at the front. I paid no attention to pattern placement so I'm amused to see I have a fish on each nipple! The reviews on Pattern Review all suggested this is low cut and it is (and some sewed the front closed). I don't mind a bit of cleavage and this isn't a work dress so I'm happy to wear it as is<br />
<br />
This dress is really flattering and I will probably make one in a plain colour before the summer is out.<br />

I have no real plan as such, other than knowing I need at least three bottoms and five tops.<br />
<br />
With that thought in mind, I present two garments which may or may not be part of my SWAP.<br />
<br />
First up is a peplum top that is Burda but I can't remember the issue or the pattern number and can't be bothered to look for it. If you have the magazine, it was on the cover and made in bright yellow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAGKfl5QC2T_Za-308gY-CkSNwex_1M2xufAgv2Lx3MRgZV7MseJjkIEFKOuM0r3Kcb4aKCrYMtBo2_235yWsanCmGmCtyZN9b6ccWs3toH9ahUOn1AfX4o6kQ-aHRgl9Hto2t21sFvQ/s1600/PB110002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAGKfl5QC2T_Za-308gY-CkSNwex_1M2xufAgv2Lx3MRgZV7MseJjkIEFKOuM0r3Kcb4aKCrYMtBo2_235yWsanCmGmCtyZN9b6ccWs3toH9ahUOn1AfX4o6kQ-aHRgl9Hto2t21sFvQ/s1600/PB110002.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>

It looks pretty ordinary on Vera but it looks good on a human. You may recognise the fabric from a pair of leggings I made last year.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVqZhap0TiPw6UIs71t6v3rPDg8QI4TqFci0UIuYy86J2MP34J2SlC801tNHymCV4iIY78mIbrG8qSeksluJ0Fkx1NWPcBtqkq4QAmqLn9YoD75vecRMXS8l3KkrTLFu6X_V-QEsYwJg/s1600/P2050007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVqZhap0TiPw6UIs71t6v3rPDg8QI4TqFci0UIuYy86J2MP34J2SlC801tNHymCV4iIY78mIbrG8qSeksluJ0Fkx1NWPcBtqkq4QAmqLn9YoD75vecRMXS8l3KkrTLFu6X_V-QEsYwJg/s1600/P2050007.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgMXNRK_OAvNYwaXuB0mO4M6L4eLxH-qoDR99_-_22MRjXpRNNhRi3JFN9W3ARKXucgokhFP6CJsSwNqoolOltrRz4MVNFBq7Bm8AKxMb1_xViKih6tgT09qGx4T6NbSkJ4uKFr7eIuA/s1600/P2050005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgMXNRK_OAvNYwaXuB0mO4M6L4eLxH-qoDR99_-_22MRjXpRNNhRi3JFN9W3ARKXucgokhFP6CJsSwNqoolOltrRz4MVNFBq7Bm8AKxMb1_xViKih6tgT09qGx4T6NbSkJ4uKFr7eIuA/s1600/P2050005.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a>Second up is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/121_Jupe/1437260-1782463-1782467-1782484.html" target="_blank">BWOF 08-11-121</a>. I really like this skirt. I've made patterns with a gathered insert in the middle before and was always disappointed that the middle bit hung down in drapes. This pattern, very sensibly, has the knit part about 1cm narrower than the section underneath, so it stretches and stays taut when you wear it. You may recognise the fabrics from my jeans and a top from the Shetland Collection. Of course, I have added my labels and it still gives me a little thrill to put these in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-tmZqnTf8I67ydXnsi-GAmoexNXMkF6KyKAfeMpZY6WGAfASiDs0aJ0S8SX5xJdV_daEQGOTtpfWpX_8hqC6y6SDt5uezqxCf1E8DAE_wQGzlrZVr3Djovh-B9Idy8t7h9TOWY8SCPg/s1600/P2050009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-tmZqnTf8I67ydXnsi-GAmoexNXMkF6KyKAfeMpZY6WGAfASiDs0aJ0S8SX5xJdV_daEQGOTtpfWpX_8hqC6y6SDt5uezqxCf1E8DAE_wQGzlrZVr3Djovh-B9Idy8t7h9TOWY8SCPg/s1600/P2050009.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The best thing about both of these garments is that they were made from leftovers, including the skirt lining, so they are essentially free garments and that makes me very happy.<br />
<br />
I have no idea what is up next on my sewing calendar. I might just have to lay out some fabric and stare at it for a while tonight.<br />
<br />

I just looked at the rules for this years SWAP and I realise that a lot of the things I had planned for the Shetland Collection, along with things that match but wouldn't work for this trip, will form the basis of a SWAP, so I will leave them for that.<br />
<br />
I had a short break in New Zealand last week, so some of the garments shown have been finished for a while now.<br />
<br />
This coat is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/Archives_des_magazines/119_Manteau/1270777-1463237-1553271-1553277-1553446.html" target="_blank">BWOF 10-07-119</a> and is shown here sans buttons, which have since been added. I've had this fabric in my stash for a few years now and in my mind it was charcoal, but when I pulled it out it was more brownish than I recalled. C'est la vie. I love this coat and although it's out of the colour range of the Shetland Collection I don't think anyone will notice!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It looks a little shapeless on a naked Vera. When I wear this it will have several layers underneath (and I have more padding than Vera to start with) so it won't look so shapeless.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The buttons don't show so well here but they are black and brown and work perfectly with this fabric. I didn't have anything in my stash so I visited the local store not expecting to find anything but there they were ... and only 60c each!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The lining is an animal print I've had in my stash for some years and it is perfect with the fabric. Overall, I would go so far as to say this coat is one of the best things I've ever made.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up is my version of the Cake Patterns Espresso leggings. I love, love, love this pattern! No side seam and custom drafted to cover my rear end! The fabric came from Spotlight off the $3 per metre sale about a year or so ago. Wish I'd bought more! I only bought 2 metres but managed to get these leggings and another top I have yet to photograph.</div>

Apologies for the bad mirror shot in my bathroom but as Molly as no opposable thumbs, she can't quite manage the camera. Perhaps I should have taken my socks off. They look a little grubby.</div>

I have a really vague memory of buying in the Lismore Spotlight this time last year, but I can't be certain. It must have been cheap because I bought 3m of it!<br />
<br />
I made View C of <a href="http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m5975-products-10562.php?page_id=108" target="_blank">M5975</a>. I've made several versions of this over the years, but I love it. It's a great pattern and works really well for me. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfM59UKgGpHzztxezoXk0mxERe6tqsIAQYAve4W_eABcrQe_TYMs3KbYyc5j2dvSpSyTMFOyLjB_nNbo4Q4Ptwy9wiKCr51dprB7Pshbibzgs9_GPtYHt5s7Azwws79lKwf3qxoWJOvg/s1600/PA150003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfM59UKgGpHzztxezoXk0mxERe6tqsIAQYAve4W_eABcrQe_TYMs3KbYyc5j2dvSpSyTMFOyLjB_nNbo4Q4Ptwy9wiKCr51dprB7Pshbibzgs9_GPtYHt5s7Azwws79lKwf3qxoWJOvg/s1600/PA150003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
As I was taking this photograph, I remembered a slim fitting wool crepe dress in this exact colour that me and a friend bought in a op shop in about 1975 and shared until it fell apart. That op shop, in the suburb I grew up in, was in the electorate of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gough_Whitlam" target="_blank">Gough Whitlam</a>. Ironic that I should be remembering those happy days of my childhood in the week of his passing. <br />
<br />
I had plenty of leftover fabric and so while I was threaded up I made another version of KS3888. I love the simplicity of the binding on the neckline.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Wof63XnBhnGg2pKC1uLJ2EhtBfL4VtTYCIL2h8lts7FtQco6Hs4OWkvXd_ds_qPueFRgjLTgf2Dz3H8WhWqfnF1EFnAyvIUqV0YX8yrjAsjVRcKFZthnmoemRt7Rb68AUGlM4BxXOg/s1600/PA150002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Wof63XnBhnGg2pKC1uLJ2EhtBfL4VtTYCIL2h8lts7FtQco6Hs4OWkvXd_ds_qPueFRgjLTgf2Dz3H8WhWqfnF1EFnAyvIUqV0YX8yrjAsjVRcKFZthnmoemRt7Rb68AUGlM4BxXOg/s1600/PA150002.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjAfAvC_vlYmB3_SF3zC2OqnRcF1AHQDh7AjNioopSkVH3jmCyEVbzhCP6IyvGK2ukYB1LHsEukidQZJgXXuai8VlfL9NZKljXuI5E-4MIowxY2ze2yM_gwDyfiJrh7MXhT_00pThP4A/s1600/PA150001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjAfAvC_vlYmB3_SF3zC2OqnRcF1AHQDh7AjNioopSkVH3jmCyEVbzhCP6IyvGK2ukYB1LHsEukidQZJgXXuai8VlfL9NZKljXuI5E-4MIowxY2ze2yM_gwDyfiJrh7MXhT_00pThP4A/s1600/PA150001.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I have more fabric left so I will probably drag it out for a summer top!<br />
<br />
I was going to start cutting out my overcoat tonight but as it's still about 24 degrees at 8.30pm, I don't think I will. It's hard to sew for a northern winter when it's so hot!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In a ridiculous moment of self-deception, I managed to convince myself that this was the right skirt to make. It fails on two levels. Winter white?? On me?? Then there is the style. I have a waist and hips, wrap ANYTHING does NOT work for me.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdx92HXTgxtcsYHydrm9_oP2epQnO_1Fldjz7ajadvjzfwCBV1Or8ssguM_wl_Ngz1Uk1OUiSrt0Pg6zJgEahy-pqQZLxWRmYbR64xxYxSP6oInfBvrk0_uKlbyLDGdxe8YFiUR3QL6Q/s1600/PA090003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdx92HXTgxtcsYHydrm9_oP2epQnO_1Fldjz7ajadvjzfwCBV1Or8ssguM_wl_Ngz1Uk1OUiSrt0Pg6zJgEahy-pqQZLxWRmYbR64xxYxSP6oInfBvrk0_uKlbyLDGdxe8YFiUR3QL6Q/s1600/PA090003.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For those less curvy, this pattern is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/110_A_Jupe/1437260-1783085-1783090-1783126.html" target="_blank">BWOF 09-2011-110</a> and it's a lovely little skirt made from a piece of lovely winter white wool. The pattern calls for a facing but given the coarse nature of this wool, I knew it would be irritating so I lined it edge to edge with some leftover white bemberg. I'm happy with the skirt but it just doesn't work on my curvy body.</div>

Feeling slightly disillusioned, I went on to make some palate cleansing knit tops, which aren't very exciting at all, but will be useful.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This first one is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/burda_Style/127_Top_en_soie/1270777-1000019-1799727-1799730-1799772.html" target="_blank">BWOF 02-2013-127</a> which I've previously made as a dress (I think that was style 128 but with long sleeves??)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like the gathers on the sleeve seam. It's a nice little difference on a basic long sleeve tshirt.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This shows the gathers on the side, which I rather like. The fabric is kinda cute. I've yet to read it to see what it actually says! It's a really soft and drapey rayon knit and will be lovely to wear.</div>

So far I have only made the dress, which is my favourite knit dress EVER. It's flattering and comfortable and the raised neck at the back is perfect for me in winter.<br />
<br />
The jacket, however, is not my favourite. I'm not sure I like it. I thought the peplum might be flattering, but it just makes me look fat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTlF8Odl3ionMiyBiGu9gveCQ4OsgZH0Iy_r4iA5s7Vc3mPQpqA4WE9-oTj7mEhBKujykEV2qZSLmo7qtIN84v0f3K5V7bYvPu5aZe0YuWAjvH8zJ59-KSPIdnqias6qQhIhz4wZjv5Q/s1600/PA030002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTlF8Odl3ionMiyBiGu9gveCQ4OsgZH0Iy_r4iA5s7Vc3mPQpqA4WE9-oTj7mEhBKujykEV2qZSLmo7qtIN84v0f3K5V7bYvPu5aZe0YuWAjvH8zJ59-KSPIdnqias6qQhIhz4wZjv5Q/s1600/PA030002.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
The front is held together with a large hook and eye (the kind used on furs) which I didn't photograph, sorry. The sleeves are a little looser than I would like, but as I will wear this over layers, it might be OK. It's hard to sew winter clothes on a hot day when all you want to wear is underwear!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The fabric is a multi colour knit, and I've taken a flash free pic below to give you a better indication of the colour. I bought it for the pink and it goes with a lot of things I already own....if I liked it.<br />

<br />
These are based on <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/116_Pantalon_Schema_du_modele/1437260-1779883-1779886-1779895-1779969.html" target="_blank">BWOF 05-11-116</a> skinny jeans which have funny little slit pockets. I morphed the traditional jeans front pocket from the old Burda <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/anita" target="_blank">Anita</a> jeans that I downloaded free many years ago. There is no button yet as I ran out of silver jeans buttons, but the rivets are on - you can just make them out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqlMjGddIQc6BMHaDWkrFUwLNJMZTnE0_Rw8cR0n4xiuJGRbwVBwX7bMCED9bCssvYsHbYI77N8B7QkhJ1Ts4UitPC3XqgGan-8FUPmtQt-RtbwWWUL7N0mdL4RoavD1fmcy9GFJNKHQ/s1600/PA020010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqlMjGddIQc6BMHaDWkrFUwLNJMZTnE0_Rw8cR0n4xiuJGRbwVBwX7bMCED9bCssvYsHbYI77N8B7QkhJ1Ts4UitPC3XqgGan-8FUPmtQt-RtbwWWUL7N0mdL4RoavD1fmcy9GFJNKHQ/s1600/PA020010.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
They started as a size 38 but I lengthened the back to match a pair of Levis Bold Curve skinny jeans (another genius invention) and changed the shape of the crotch curve so it covered my fat middle-aged-ass. I took about 3 inches out of the waist to make it fit. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwjIrkTfS-56hCGG76Ng1r7w5X2eWA4H9f4c51ljFfTVF98jQAJ_ZSFMd6MRYYlZl3YTLgT831lzjM1L7EuRcK2wDvFpYwGq70s3Iia4f7k97zzU5GchvUsSf0jL6bUNUiwESaZXT6cg/s1600/PA020004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwjIrkTfS-56hCGG76Ng1r7w5X2eWA4H9f4c51ljFfTVF98jQAJ_ZSFMd6MRYYlZl3YTLgT831lzjM1L7EuRcK2wDvFpYwGq70s3Iia4f7k97zzU5GchvUsSf0jL6bUNUiwESaZXT6cg/s1600/PA020004.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
I tried to take some pictures of me wearing them but it was a bit of a disaster (as you can see from this shot in which my butt looks as big as cow) and a waste of time, so you only get flat shots from my crappy camera.<br />
<br />
In a moment of <strike>drunken madness</strike> pure inspiration I decided to reference the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Shetland" target="_blank">Shetland flag</a> in my pocket stitching.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I used some scraps of a weird red and purple poly cotton leftover from a shirt I made at least ten years ago. Again, my camera won't focus but you get the idea!<br />
<br />

As it turns out, this is a comfortable, wearable dress and I've had loads of compliments when I wear it!.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK1H0JK2jURHc1fdVAHBbECu5YaNK8l1zqothGo6jmGN1cmMEf9VwAcVduyeDuR0qahWOcjeCbKcEfs7tD-wHSpAnuZKWin2IEZAaet5TkK6gStTJSYe9bhLk6GBk27UZ-R8a-xEs1YQ/s1600/P9270001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK1H0JK2jURHc1fdVAHBbECu5YaNK8l1zqothGo6jmGN1cmMEf9VwAcVduyeDuR0qahWOcjeCbKcEfs7tD-wHSpAnuZKWin2IEZAaet5TkK6gStTJSYe9bhLk6GBk27UZ-R8a-xEs1YQ/s1600/P9270001.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Like the long sleeve tshirt from yesterday, I've made these shorts more times than I remember. They've even featured in two previous travel wardrobes. A red, black and white one<a href="http://sewivebeenthinking.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/some-sewing-going-on.html" target="_blank"> here</a> and an orange and brown one <a href="http://sewivebeenthinking.blogspot.com.au/2009/08/stick-fork-in-me.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
These are the Burda <a href="http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/ruby" target="_blank">Ruby Shorts</a> that I downloaded many, many years ago when the patterns were all still free.<br />
<br />
As you can see, I've used the pink fabric from the high waisted skirt and the final remnant of the silk/cotton paisley from last weeks top. Buttons from stash, so this is essentially a free garment<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I even made the little pocket bag out of the paisley fabric. Sorry about the out of focus pic!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As inappropriate as it may be, I still wear shorts in winter with tights and boots. I will wear these in Shetland and as there is probably a warm climate stop off either end of the Shetland trip, they can double up as hot weather wear.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think I need to get the leggings and skinny jeans underway and I really need to decide on a coat pattern and get my charcoal wool prepped! Watch this space...</div>

These tops will see lots of wear, Shetland or not!<br />
<br />
First up is my much favoured TNT <a href="http://kwiksew.mccall.com/k3338-products-19953.php?page_id=3038" target="_blank">KS3338</a> with the self drafted cowl from the Australian Stitches magazine. This pattern is XS at the top, then shifts out top S at the hips and is lengthened to the XXL length. I've lost count of how many times I've made this. The fabric is a heavy cotton/lycra blend. Boring but very useful!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjruv2y2NDil1p_-r7JcoLMbLDY2X62fTxfeSSe1V5Km9sjXUskuIgstdNyv1Pa9BFYz0HfIMqRbzQFFNf5jYn6w08xM9-z8AZgMp3da_19uT01XT0vTY75Zd5BAMtV1xt54XHcLfAnyg/s1600/P9260003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjruv2y2NDil1p_-r7JcoLMbLDY2X62fTxfeSSe1V5Km9sjXUskuIgstdNyv1Pa9BFYz0HfIMqRbzQFFNf5jYn6w08xM9-z8AZgMp3da_19uT01XT0vTY75Zd5BAMtV1xt54XHcLfAnyg/s1600/P9260003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up is <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8790-products-16432.php?page_id=174" target="_blank">V8790</a> made from a thin cheap poly cotton lycra blend fabric that I think I got from Spotlight at a very cheap price. I like the longer length of this top and it will look great over leggings and skinny jeans that are yet to be made. I have a love/hate relationship with wrap front tops but I love the colour of this one and it will be put to good use.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

As always, this looks better on me than on Vera. I made an 8 at the top, blending down to a 10 at the bottom. I really like the high neckline at the back. As someone with a short haircut, this makes a real difference to a winter top</div>

<br />
First up is <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8672-products-11352.php?page_id=174" target="_blank">Vogue 8672</a> View A, considerably shortened. It's hard to tell, but the fabric is a heavy wool (that I got ridiculously cheap) with a tartan pattern in the weave. You might be able to see it in these pics, but it's not that noticeable. I like the slightly high waist, which is very flattering. This basic black skirt fills a massive hole in my wardrobe that's been there for some time. I guess this is the sewing equivalent of the plumber with a leaky tap...<br />

The lining is from stash, a poly satin that I bought some years ago now and I think I lined a jacket with it. It's the perfect weight for this wool and will stop it from itching like crazy.<br />
<br />
Next up is the very high waisted <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/burda_Style/113_Minijupe/1270777-1000019-1808248-1808263-1808265.html" target="_blank">Burda 04-14-113</a> skirt. I am ambivalent about this skirt. I made it without the pockets for obvious reasons and I didn't topstitch the waist as it didn't sit right. If I were to make this again I would cut the band separately for a better shape and fit.<br />
<br />
The fabric is a stretch twill of some sort that I really like but, as it turns out, crushes easily so won't be great for travelling.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL3dleQfxfqGPQOGAmxXrQ8YEpO9y9-rejU24_P3hklVwdtjS4GdheZVWDREspap5piA0lfJUtOJhYETobYmHohB4AEacOQWvhtm0OcEmexJz2LyeaQUMmCDMrpVNsd0radsVxR9dYbQ/s1600/P9240001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL3dleQfxfqGPQOGAmxXrQ8YEpO9y9-rejU24_P3hklVwdtjS4GdheZVWDREspap5piA0lfJUtOJhYETobYmHohB4AEacOQWvhtm0OcEmexJz2LyeaQUMmCDMrpVNsd0radsVxR9dYbQ/s1600/P9240001.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Another thing that makes it a no go is that it doesn't look as good with this blouse as I had imagined. However, having said all of those negative things, this skirt will actually see a lot of use for work because it turns out that this shade of dusty pink is a great neutral and goes with a lot of things already in my wardrobe.<br />

I'm trying to wear more blouses as I'm getting tired of knit tops that look the same, so I've started with a blouse that already exists in my wardrobe in about seven different versions. This is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/Archives_des_magazines/108_Blouse/1270777-1463237-1579053-1579058-1579210.html" target="_blank">BWOF 01-2008-107</a> or 108 or something. I like this without the collar (which I think is #107). <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPQhywe2RT_SblDwKpI4B-VHY6mX3RtErOV0pWxYrVhHc9Ln_z9iaXZEjl1Hd0Hj1CJICzBBMepM18teNsLcJ7yQVP22TjtexeD5R2YOiiGfu3sb8m7ZWtCgR7AhXk1H8pe99y7F5ysQ/s1600/P9180003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPQhywe2RT_SblDwKpI4B-VHY6mX3RtErOV0pWxYrVhHc9Ln_z9iaXZEjl1Hd0Hj1CJICzBBMepM18teNsLcJ7yQVP22TjtexeD5R2YOiiGfu3sb8m7ZWtCgR7AhXk1H8pe99y7F5ysQ/s1600/P9180003.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's been a little hard to photograph this because of the fabric. I don't actually know what it is, but I suspect it may be a raw silk of some sort. It feels like a light, soft taffeta but doesn't have any shimmer in it, although the last photo seems to look that way. I acquired this fabric some years ago, along with several other colours, from a film shoot. Back when I had an actual career (Production Manager - film and television) it was my job to dispose of all the left over stuff at the end of a shoot. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have always loved this fabric and never knew what to do with it. None of these pictures give a true portrayal of the colour. It's a soft dusty pink. I had so little fabric that I had to cut the inside collar and the placket binding strips from this paisley, which you will see below.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's not a very exciting shirt, but I like it and I had to start somewhere!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next up is something new. This is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/burda_Style/106_Chemisier_en_satin/1270777-1000019-1801051-1801053-1801079.html" target="_blank">BWOF 05-2013-106</a> and while I could sew the previous blouse in my sleep, this one was a different story. Burda's instructions are woeful, as usual, and the pictures don't give a clear enough look at it to figure out the neckline. No one in the blogosphere seems to have made it so there was no help available. Anyway, I forged ahead with the construction in the hope it would become clear. It didn't, but I think I've fudged it well enough.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The collar doesn't actually attach, it wraps around your neck then snaps onto the collar on one side, then the end gets tucked under and snaps to itself. The fabric is a cotton/silk paisley in lavenders, pinks and greys. I apologise for the bad pictures but I think my camera is on its last legs.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

It's been a busy year and a bit since my last post.<br />
<br />I'd like to thank <a href="http://www.sheilaz-ctk.com/" target="_blank">Sheila</a> and <a href="http://fayessewingadventure.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Faye</a> for checking in on me! All is well. I've been busy renovating a house, building another and working. On top of that I managed three overseas trips and am leaving on another this coming week.<br />
<br />
I have been sewing, not much, but some. I haven't blogged any of it, but there are a few things I will show off in time.<br />
<br />
For now I would like to introduce a travel wardrobe I am working on for a month long trip to Shetland this Christmas. So far I have only been there in summer and as I live in the subtropics my wardrobe isn't that well equipped.<br />
<br />
The wardrobe was inspired by this cardigan, a gift sent to me from Nepal. This picture doesn't do it justice. It is the softest, lightest cashmere I have ever felt.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTYKPzl73Rp5y2SFIIOfDtBx9xii37pLGlqjY5kUGtonYCKWWrRy8afeHRP9V0PkNl19RMOrbAZ_8z9whASCtD96vkLO7gxjY3C4w1f6R9FjC394Ql8PQ42NNrBDxWbaOTJayHpjRU2w/s1600/P8270004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTYKPzl73Rp5y2SFIIOfDtBx9xii37pLGlqjY5kUGtonYCKWWrRy8afeHRP9V0PkNl19RMOrbAZ_8z9whASCtD96vkLO7gxjY3C4w1f6R9FjC394Ql8PQ42NNrBDxWbaOTJayHpjRU2w/s1600/P8270004.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
So I collected some paint charts and pulled a page from a magazine.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I pulled some fabric from my stash</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEIOaoXS8vp7yCNpIm5-Z6qct4TongRI_arr69OV-xvj0uuzntueW73Qth9pPQledn4J4exGTSvkh1fYvmppVF2UIS417hFSbjYq1MmOGpdvSUtmvDrGbORKjP2xC8D3og5Rv0kJcD6Q/s1600/P8270007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEIOaoXS8vp7yCNpIm5-Z6qct4TongRI_arr69OV-xvj0uuzntueW73Qth9pPQledn4J4exGTSvkh1fYvmppVF2UIS417hFSbjYq1MmOGpdvSUtmvDrGbORKjP2xC8D3og5Rv0kJcD6Q/s1600/P8270007.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And the Shetland Collection was born.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have a fair idea of what I want to make, mainly skirts, tops and leggings. I have jeans already, including a purple pair from a SWAP a few years ago. There are other fabrics in my stash that co-ordinate and will take this in a different direction, but for the purposes of a travel wardrobe I will stick to the palette of dusty pink, dusty lavender, grey, black and cream. Not included in this fabrics above is a charcoal wool that will become a new overcoat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So in an attempt to kick start my collection, I made this. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is BWOF 03-10-126 that I last made in in 2010 <a href="http://sewivebeenthinking.blogspot.com.au/2010/10/some-sewing-going-on.html" target="_blank">here .</a> It looks way better on a person than on Vera. This is a slightly fuzzy knit somewhere between a jersey and a ponte weight with a soft underside. I still wear the original red and white stripe, in fact it's been worn on about 10 international flights since I made it. Perfect weight, looks good over leggings and holds up on even the longest of long haul flights.</div>

With the weather cooling and no immediate arrival of my belongings from Hobart, I needed some clothes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGqQ_5-rxMXyCpjbcmh1Tg_kfQCZADe02LPMWvvw_YOdyRwSsYQMVjE_4QYoeIID_GX0oCVcOSbTFG4bHGo0x8vAARVHNHdzAygY7dOQem3zuOYV5BHz8zz0YupohN88rSBhiyuTNffw/s1600/P5250003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGqQ_5-rxMXyCpjbcmh1Tg_kfQCZADe02LPMWvvw_YOdyRwSsYQMVjE_4QYoeIID_GX0oCVcOSbTFG4bHGo0x8vAARVHNHdzAygY7dOQem3zuOYV5BHz8zz0YupohN88rSBhiyuTNffw/s320/P5250003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I started with this one which is an amalgam of <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/burda_Style/127_Top_en_soie/1270777-1000019-1799727-1799730-1799772.html" target="_blank">BWOF 02-13-127</a> top and <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/burda_Style/128_Robe/1270777-1000019-1799727-1799733-1799744.html" target="_blank">BWOF 02-13-128</a> dress without the ruffle down the front. I made the 36. The fabric is a cheap poly knit I bought the other day for $6 a metre at Spotlight. Now, I know I've not had many good things to say about Spotlight in Hobart, but let me tell you that Spotlight Lismore is a whole nother story! This is more purple than it appears in this shot and there is a single row of brown that I've placed at empire line for effect.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKd5NY7ho80ZyuREgmXzxwZ5Sk5v1N6A1ZCLewwZ0a2LSmwTumjjXUIsMAHD1NLJbHswbrpXYi4QP6toWvuTMlHpdjvNGwXjsdEr5JQC1ELCUV4tyk7gRTj7AohAyi1IrYhnKV4xAN4g/s1600/P5250004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKd5NY7ho80ZyuREgmXzxwZ5Sk5v1N6A1ZCLewwZ0a2LSmwTumjjXUIsMAHD1NLJbHswbrpXYi4QP6toWvuTMlHpdjvNGwXjsdEr5JQC1ELCUV4tyk7gRTj7AohAyi1IrYhnKV4xAN4g/s320/P5250004.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Also made from another $6 a metre poly knit is this version of <a href="http://voguepatterns.mccall.com/v8825-products-27100.php?page_id=865&search_control=display&list=search" target="_blank">V8825</a>. I chopped about 8 inches off so it's only a little longer than the tunic version. When I read the reviews on Pattern Review, someone (sorry don't recall who) mentioned they thought this dress had a 70's vibe and I agree. I thought this fabric had a 70's vibe, too, so I combined them. I thought a 70's dress needed to be suitably short as well. I can't tell you how much I love this dress! I can't wait to wear it.<br />
<br />
Now that I seem to be getting back to the real world, I may just have to tell the tale of my return home, complete with sewing pictures!Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11274649006496918800noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-288557062866975359.post-56712628717989179892013-05-15T15:38:00.001+10:002013-05-15T15:38:14.885+10:00I'm still alive ...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNa6lhSZKDs5lNlysb_FTdf4Yt7VevL9RS1IHZJMy7A-7GO1r-bN04fxb-mbltHrQIIFHESvVevdn-1_QjEpeCl5kmx064wQDXRlfB6LkUcM84nUrwNEDwSDgC5apHi0vGyvRDb_G85w/s1600/P5030003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNa6lhSZKDs5lNlysb_FTdf4Yt7VevL9RS1IHZJMy7A-7GO1r-bN04fxb-mbltHrQIIFHESvVevdn-1_QjEpeCl5kmx064wQDXRlfB6LkUcM84nUrwNEDwSDgC5apHi0vGyvRDb_G85w/s320/P5030003.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Just when you thought I'd disappeared off the face of the earth ...<br />
<br />
I'm back with an emergency version of Vogue 1020 which is probably long OOP. I've come home with very little clothing, most of which doesn't fit. The rest is still in Hobart. I needed a dress to wear and I thought making this in a cotton lycra would fit, but it was still baggy. I need to put some weight on!<br />
<br />
I hope to be back to regular sewing soon. It's been a hectic three months!<br />
<br />
More later ...Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11274649006496918800noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-288557062866975359.post-40344619166911408802013-03-03T22:25:00.002+11:002013-03-03T22:25:52.084+11:00Potential SWAP additionI've been a bit stuck with what to sew next as I can't find the fabric I want. I saw it when I didn't want it and now I can't find it but then with only ONE fabric store in Tasmania, what else can I expect. If anyone sees matte gold or champagne sequin fabric please let me know. Even a bronze would work.<br />
<br />
These shorts are a real TNT. It's the Burda Ruby shorts that I downloaded free many years ago, pre blog days, in fact. The fabric is the same. It's a lovely soft stretch sateen that is leftover from a dress I made to wear to a wedding many years ago. As I've been slowly packing I keep coming across things that might work for my SWAP, so this keeps with my stashbusting challenge. The buttons and thread were from stash, too, so these are free.<br />

Here they are on the floor and below you can see the cute little bound pocket on the front. This pocket is the perfect size for an ipod or mobile phone, so these make great walking shorts for me.</div>

Whenever I make these shorts for some reason I always make the button facings and pocket bags a contrast colour.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZggBceuFAvXSP4ChsUMzXEVx_czm0IQJOHvzh7huZ5uRvGRszX7lRiqJXUK3pOBPzET9lvGcObsY9_hZ3Cip-iEmJ2Czcz6-vp1krjpCFjfZ9p1A14g4OiGT-mdO-d5Tjx4zrv67ffA/s1600/P2210005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZggBceuFAvXSP4ChsUMzXEVx_czm0IQJOHvzh7huZ5uRvGRszX7lRiqJXUK3pOBPzET9lvGcObsY9_hZ3Cip-iEmJ2Czcz6-vp1krjpCFjfZ9p1A14g4OiGT-mdO-d5Tjx4zrv67ffA/s320/P2210005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I don't love the buttons, but I have lots of them in stash and I know I'll stop noticing them soon.<br />
<br />
I managed to find a lovely piece of chocolate silk chiffon at a very reasonable price. Some moron working in Spotlight had clearly mislabelled it but I wasn't going to point it out to them. I want to make a top to go with these shorts as well as the snake print pants from last time.<br />
<br />
If these shorts make it into my SWAP that means I'm five garments down and six to go. With my move date uncertain, I may find it hard to finish this year but I'm going to persist until the day I drive away from here.Carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11274649006496918800noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-288557062866975359.post-1374687127818901182013-02-23T22:32:00.001+11:002013-02-23T22:32:53.941+11:00Escape is at hand for the travelling man ...I've been listening to a lot of the Tragically Hip this week and it's flavoured my mood tonight.<br />
<br />
Two weeks ago when I started these jeans I had a plan, not just for my pants, but for my life. My world has been altered in the past 14 days for reasons that I may share in the coming weeks. I've had to delay my return home by a few weeks and that comes with mixed feelings. But back to the jeans ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

These started life as BWOF 05-11-116 skinny jeans, which I made recently in red. As I mentioned last time, I frankenpatterned the pockets of Burda Anita jeans onto this pattern and this time I also frankenpatterned the crotch curve from my best fitting RTW jeans (Levis Bold Curve). I took the back seam in by about an inch, but that could be because this sateen is a little stretchier than the one I used last time.<br />

<br />
I am quite happy with the fit, although these pictures make me look FAT. These pants are a nice addition to my SWAP. The pictures aren't great but at least they are on a body. I'll make sure I get someone to take better shots when SWAP is done.<br />

I took a couple of hours out this morning to take Molly down to the waterfront and have a look at the Wooden Boat Festival, but the rest of the weekend has been spent in the house. Between the horrendous smoke from the fires and the unbelievable wind, it's way more comfortable inside, anyway. I struggle with static electricity in Hobart at the best of times, but today every bit of thread, dog hair and other assorted flotsam and jetsam are all stuck to me and my sewing.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
First of all I finished up this pair of high-waisted skinny, slouchy pants. Sorry about the crappy mirror shots but I am too lazy and too busy to waste time messing with a tripod. You'll have to wait for the SWAP shots now! These are <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/119_A_Pantalon/1437260-1778088-1778091-1778142.html" target="_blank">BWOF 03-11-119 </a>and are made from the same fabric as the skirt from last week. The line drawing makes them look more slim than they are but the pictures from the magazine and this one from the website shows that they really are a little more slouchy. I hated them at first, but I actually quite like them now.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgySvF9ibQTwcjQ6t2hUUnDWl1o6-cX5YMEgZr201A7Lea8On7qwl7VHBKRUbVDITBKqOVle3AnRPuT67YldqefuUGLv6NLkLZeNqZuNDshZHJ97HXYXSswzn9p9h-cxd_X96dnC7IS8A/s1600/03-11-119.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgySvF9ibQTwcjQ6t2hUUnDWl1o6-cX5YMEgZr201A7Lea8On7qwl7VHBKRUbVDITBKqOVle3AnRPuT67YldqefuUGLv6NLkLZeNqZuNDshZHJ97HXYXSswzn9p9h-cxd_X96dnC7IS8A/s320/03-11-119.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up I made this top, which is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/Magazines/Archives_des_magazines/129_Chemisier/1270777-1463237-1767442-1767501-1767597.html" target="_blank">BWOF 05-10-129</a>. I love, love, love this top way more than I had expected. I first made this <a href="http://sewivebeenthinking.blogspot.com.au/2011/01/what-ive-been-up-to.html" target="_blank">here</a> and I loved the first version but I felt it could use a few alterations. I lengthened the bodice by 2.5cm and I lengthened the peplum by a further 2.5cm. I left the patch pockets off because I hate them and I think the top still works without them.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXehmdqhIZgyQI5r6Ohv13TFcbgtu76dYCG6IJDScZORBEaoLxn18xG6AUlHat68Y4OIrvlppDl4krlwdjU3wyH3IDh3Hcqix4DwfZKCQRIWrwWpeKJMnBvDVtMUHuQGB7p6g__w-QgQ/s1600/P1310001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXehmdqhIZgyQI5r6Ohv13TFcbgtu76dYCG6IJDScZORBEaoLxn18xG6AUlHat68Y4OIrvlppDl4krlwdjU3wyH3IDh3Hcqix4DwfZKCQRIWrwWpeKJMnBvDVtMUHuQGB7p6g__w-QgQ/s320/P1310001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a close up of the fabric that may not show in the other photo. It's a slightly textured linen with a gold sheen on some of the threads. This is a record for me; I bought a piece of fabric and sewed it almost immediately! It was from Spotlight, ironically. Have I mentioned that the only fabric shop in the WHOLE OF TASMANIA is Spotlight??<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am rather fond of this fabric, even though I usually dislike wearing linen. Of course, this top also has one of my <strike>mistake</strike> design feature mirror image labels.</div>

I even managed a passable mirror shot of the top with the skirt from last week.<br />

Back to packing while I decide what to sew next. I have some animal print ...</div>

When I first started planning my SWAP I wanted to use chocolate brown sateen as my base. I visited Spotlight in Hobart and they had tons of black and every colour known to man - except brown, in fact they told me it didn't come in brown! I decided to wait until I got home at christmas time and visit one of the stores up there. Although I couldn't find brown sateen, I did manage to find a really lovely cotton suiting with a little stretch. I don't know what it is, but it really is lovely with a great hand, great weight and just the right amount of stretch.<br />
<br />
While I was contemplating my SWAP, I changed my mind and decided I would like to use black. Safe in the knowledge that I had seen plenty of black, I went to Spotlight and guess what I found? No black. But they suddenly have a lot of chocolate brown.<br />
<br />
As I am going home at the end of this month, I hope I will never have to set foot in Spotlight Hobart again. Here endeth the rant.<br />
<br />
And here starts my SWAP.<br />
<br />
This is <a href="http://www.burdafashion.com/fr/103_A_Jupe_Schema_du_modele/1437260-1777126-1777130-1777179-1777221.html" target="_blank">BWOF 02-11-103</a>, which I made for last years SWAP. It really is my favourite pencil skirt ever and I've made four versions of it and there will be more.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ_Orkx8mYOWwuFujJ6oxIpMLz6PPLlKKxFmYQEC1gQzfiX-D_T9fOIV8lwaOjH19bIJ8TEZQfXV6CvwfV3rwXLPG4MbWlrzWcl4Sc5zCnvc31EI9eoNHuQqYU1P4HeFYFVgcgNCIB2Q/s1600/P1240001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ_Orkx8mYOWwuFujJ6oxIpMLz6PPLlKKxFmYQEC1gQzfiX-D_T9fOIV8lwaOjH19bIJ8TEZQfXV6CvwfV3rwXLPG4MbWlrzWcl4Sc5zCnvc31EI9eoNHuQqYU1P4HeFYFVgcgNCIB2Q/s320/P1240001.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The picture of the front is overexposed and the spot on the hip is water. I just happened to leave my failed birthday dress on Vera and this skirt looks good with it. Maybe I'll shorten it to a top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVAmGPqZTFH-6Cuea_IQfe7T79RAjSC7srseGb0tDRDLxpuPM-ouRzRdUKN7XMZ5IdIrIx0ioWDj5vyiYw3vc-0EQP41FvnbXGOTlsKPYXTlQdvMgOZwUCKu6Aa4THb0czQZNiYLdWyw/s1600/P1240002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVAmGPqZTFH-6Cuea_IQfe7T79RAjSC7srseGb0tDRDLxpuPM-ouRzRdUKN7XMZ5IdIrIx0ioWDj5vyiYw3vc-0EQP41FvnbXGOTlsKPYXTlQdvMgOZwUCKu6Aa4THb0czQZNiYLdWyw/s320/P1240002.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
The back shot is clearer but the skirt still looks worse than it is in real life. The reason for this is because I broke my much loved Sunbeam iron. My friends at home have bought me a gravity feed iron for my milestone birthday, but I told them to hang on to it until I get home. In the interim I have purchased a cheap iron that is total crap and irons very poorly.<br />
<br />
This skirt is lined with a weird shaped bit of stretch charmeuse I got at the op shop for 50c.<br />
<br />
The other thing that I've managed to cock up is printing my labels. Some time ago now <a href="http://loweryourpresserfoot.blogspot.com.au/" target="_blank">Kristy</a> came up with a great idea for using t shirt printing sheets to make labels you can iron onto ribbon. I've been doing this successfully ever since. That is, until this weekend. When I printed out the iron on sheet, I forgot to reverse the print so when I ironed it onto the ribbon it was in reverse. I now have 30 reversed labels. I'm going to use them all because it makes me laugh.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQkFc99C0zMj7sKRll3HxnE4aL1XEjPKiP72T9TfxGq5ErUUWKjcX4OjregKmg-1iQ2OnNDC70RhRsJUtRYkZflfUuImh7GegqqzhcOuodhHBgsbqsrzi5J4nOtMnBu1GL1wJgKYodsA/s1600/P1240004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQkFc99C0zMj7sKRll3HxnE4aL1XEjPKiP72T9TfxGq5ErUUWKjcX4OjregKmg-1iQ2OnNDC70RhRsJUtRYkZflfUuImh7GegqqzhcOuodhHBgsbqsrzi5J4nOtMnBu1GL1wJgKYodsA/s320/P1240004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've almost finished a pair of pants from the same fabric, which I hope to photograph better than the skirt!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMj7Plj7I8_wAH4UYeNwgwL46senExySJPbWa0EbPoEwmG5Cs7fE9a1w5RINe5qSCC7E5CXGN3t5BG8SRVNh1ESJ8xLH4bWy-k-QSXQY8GJrpdtrZFqolNvc8KepDeJvvbsvC5P-vlOQ/s1600/P1260001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMj7Plj7I8_wAH4UYeNwgwL46senExySJPbWa0EbPoEwmG5Cs7fE9a1w5RINe5qSCC7E5CXGN3t5BG8SRVNh1ESJ8xLH4bWy-k-QSXQY8GJrpdtrZFqolNvc8KepDeJvvbsvC5P-vlOQ/s320/P1260001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've also made a hat from a corduroy remnant. It's V8440 and I've also made this many times. I've lined it with the last of the stretch charmeuse I used in the skirt. This is for the Stashbusting Challenge and fits with the February challenge, which is to make something for someone you love. This is for my best friend, Jo, who travelled down here for my birthday and flew home the very next day, which was her birthday.</div>
