Unofficial month of tops ...

Whilst I didn't officially join Faye's Month of Tops because I haven't finished my SWAPs and I really need to concentrate on those ... I found myself fondling some SWAP garment remnants that just hadn't made it back into the cupboard. Monday night I cut these out while I watched television. It really makes a diference having loads of things cut out and ready to sew.
This is Kwik Sew 3338 with short sleeves in extra small. I sewed this up before I went to the gym this morning.

This is also KS 3338, exactly as above. I sewed this one when I came home at lunch time.
This final one is BWOF 05-2008-103 top, but with the symmetrical drape of 104 dress because I liked it better than the assymetric drape of the top. The buckle is shell and I'm not sure where I got it from, most likely the op shop.
While the first two are inoffensive tops that will see lots of wear at this time of year, I'm not feeling the love with the last one. I'll try it on again in the morning when I'm not hot and sweaty and just a little bit grumpy. It's supposed to be autumn and it was still around 32 degrees celsius today. Tomorrow I get to work on the faux leather bound buttonhole ...

I love all of them, and I'm not a knit tops type of gal. Wow, especially the red and white print, I noticed it on GF and wondered how it would make up. I shall wonder no more, and devote myself to scheming how I can get my hands on some. It is really lovely, I'd have probably messed up the gorgeous neuvo-Islamic-art feel of the print by trying some draped top, really great how you used the fabric.

All your tops are lovely but the last one really appealed to me. I think it's interesting with the belt bit at the front and the way it wraps from the sides around to the front. Sometimes you just don't feel the love for a certain garment.

Thoswe are all terrific tops. I love to "whack and stack" cut, having things ready to sew when I can get to the machine.

It is well over 30 here today. I think I will make another sundress for autumn :)

Looks like you did a good job on those Kwik Sew tops - and your binding is sitting flat, something I have struggled with. Isn't it just wonderful to be able to whip something up?

I went downstairs to my sewing room to press my black skirt. I couldn't find my pressing cloth in its usual place, so I started opening all the drawers in my sewing desk to see if I had inadvertently put it away. This is the drawer that holds shoulder pads and large chunky zips, so I don't open it very often. This is a brown tree snake, commonly known as a night tiger. They won't kill you, but their venom packs a punch, so children, the elderly or people with weak hearts will get pretty sick. The picture doesn't do him justice as they are the most lovely shimmery bronze with a salmon coloured, very glossy belly. Whilst I have no fear of snakes and will happily pick them up and move them, finding this one in my sewing desk made me jump. The last of the red wool ...

I couldn't get the jacket I had originally planned from the remains of this wool, so I went with M5244 View B this time.  I made View A in lavender for my SWAP but this is the view that prompted me to buy this pattern in the first place.  The pattern envelope has a version in faux fur and I still want to make one of those. For once I made no alterations to the pattern and I even put the buttons where the pattern said to put them.  I lined it in the same poly charmeuse I used for the matching red skirt.  It's taken me three weeks to finish this jacket because of the lack of button availability in Tasmania, but I ended up using three buttons from my stash that have been there for a VERY long time.  I still had some bits leftover, not big enough for a garment but plenty for this little hat.  It's V8440 which I've made at least four times before.  I bought this pattern for a SWAP some years ago that required an accessory and I've continued that inspiration.
