What I did this weekend ...

I finished a few items that had been cut out and waiting in my sewing room for a while. This top is another version of Kwik Sew 3338 with the added cowl collar from Stitches magazine. I made this a while ago and it's proven to be a great wardrobe staple. This is from a very soft jersey from Georgeous Fabrics and is actually darker than this picture suggests. I also cut the XS this time and the fit is much better.Remember the purple animal print I bought a while ago? As soon as I had it in my hand it screamed at me to become this dress. It's Vogue 1020. I just noticed that the dress on the pattern envelope is in animal print, too, so I guess that's where I got my inspiration. The wind picked up when I took Vera outside to take the picture, so the sleeves are waving away. I can't wait to wear this dress! If DH thought the brown version was loud, he's really going to hate this one! Next up I made another version of the BWOF 09-2007-117 dress that I've made before. This one is made from stretch sateen. It's still pinned in this picture, but I did all the hand sewing last night while watching television and I'm actually wearing it today. I lined the dress this time using the same pattern. I haven't lined the sleeves, though, just the body.Here's a bad picture of the dress in action, taken in my office at 7am today. I'm wearing a turtleneck with a geometric pattern of teal, brown and mustard under it. When I was dressing I remembered I had this teal vintage overcoat that matches the top perfectly, so I put this outfit together and I'm rather pleased with it. Except I look fat and the dress looks more wrinkled than it is.

first to begin, I love that burda dress, I made one and its still one of my favorite things I've even sewn. The vogue dress is such a great basic dress, it reminds me of something Michelle Obama would wear because she loves clean lines and simple structure

It's a long weekend again here in Hobart. It seems there are three extra public holidays here than I got in NSW, so I'm not complaining. I had planned to do a whole lot more sewing than I actually did, but the weather was incredible and Molly and I spent a lot of time out walking. Funny thing about Tasmanian sun; it's so much easier to get burned here. I'm told it's because of the ozone layer. I did manage one completed garment. It's BWOF 05-08-116 . What would you use this sewing notion for?

I went downstairs to my sewing room to press my black skirt. I couldn't find my pressing cloth in its usual place, so I started opening all the drawers in my sewing desk to see if I had inadvertently put it away. This is the drawer that holds shoulder pads and large chunky zips, so I don't open it very often. This is a brown tree snake, commonly known as a night tiger. They won't kill you, but their venom packs a punch, so children, the elderly or people with weak hearts will get pretty sick. The picture doesn't do him justice as they are the most lovely shimmery bronze with a salmon coloured, very glossy belly. Whilst I have no fear of snakes and will happily pick them up and move them, finding this one in my sewing desk made me jump. I have loads of these all over the house, but I have never found one in a cupboard before. As I haven't opened this drawer for ages, I don't know if he is a new resident or if he comes here often.
