Still not much to show ...

I've spent the day doing boring things like replacing zippers and fixing hems. I did a rather fabulous fix on DH's wetsuit so he could have an early surf and not come home blue. I've talked him in to buying a custom made wetsuit next winter, so my poor domestic machine isn't laboured with these minor repairs.

Instead of sewing I've been trying to finalise my selections for the August Wardrobe in a Week at Stitchers Guild. These are the fabrics I've chosen. I'm making a 4 piece mini wardrobe for a short trip to Thailand in October.

The brown is leftover from a pair of jeans I made earlier in the year and will become a pair of Burdastyle Ruby shorts.


The orange will become an blouse that can double as a jacket using BWOF 05-2008-105

The crazy orange 70's explosion will become a dress (the blouse can be worn over it as a jacket) in perhaps one of these two vintage patterns.

The halter on the left is a wrap dress and is dated 1974. The pattern on the right is from 1984 I think. I'd make the version in blue on the far right. I have three metres of this stuff so I may well make a little top as well, but I'll see when it's cut out.

The fourth piece in this wardrobe will most likely be a white knit top, perhaps a crossover tank top to go with the shorts and under the orange blouse. The great thing is that these all continue the vanilla choc orange theme I started at the end of last summer and have continued through winter. If I add some of the things I made last summer, I will have a well rounded wardrobe for a six day trip!

I've also joined the Chanel jacket sewalong. I've shortlisted these three patterns, but as this is more a Chanel inspired sewalong than a strict adherence to the Chanel style, I may well stretch the boundaries a little and choose something else.

As for fabric, I do have two pieces of beautiful boucle winging their way to me, but today I pulled out piece of green wool I bought at a Lincraft sale in Brisbane a few months ago. It's a rough weave wool and looks a little like an old army blanket and something about it touched a creative nerve. I like the juxtaposition of a rough wool with the fine couture details and embellishment. I'll sleep on that one and let you know ...
