Summer sewing

I apologise for the poor mobile phone photos but I loaned my camera to someone who has not returned it. I took these pictures with my phone, then couldn't find the cable (disappeared in the move somewhere) so I sent these to my mini laptop by bluetooth and here they are.



This is BWOF 05-11-117 shirt dress. You can't see the details very well but this dress has a lovely shaped skirt and is waisted, so is much more flattering than a waistless shirtdress, at least on me. The back view is even less revealing, but it has a blouson-style back, which makes it very comfortable to wear. The collar has one of those shaped insert stands that I don't know how to describe. I've made them on jackets before and they sit so much more nicely than a regular collar and stand.

The fabric is a stretch cotton print I also bought in black and red (and very nearly black and white) from Fantazia Fabricland in Tweed Heads just the week before I came to Tasmania. I used some square/round buttons from stash that co-ordinate well with the print. I wore this to work last week with a black belt and cardigan.

I have a few christmas items to show, some of which I steal shamelessly from kbenco plus a SWAP plan I'd like to put out there. I also have two more completed garments to show but the whole phone/bluetooth transfer thing was time consuming so you may have to wait till I get my camera back.

Your shirtmaker looks great and fitted is even better. I am also thinking about SWAP sewing and plan on copying Kbenco's Christmas place mats as well.

I was very skeptical of this shirtdress in the magazine--the blouson back seemed weird--but your version appears to have proven me wrong. Very nice!

Pretty dress... great print. You made me realize that the shirtdress patterns that I have would not work or rather the one that I made look like a lumbershirt dress, I need a shirtdress pattern with skirt waist. Which could prevent it from looking merely like a ummm lumbershirt dress...lol

I went downstairs to my sewing room to press my black skirt. I couldn't find my pressing cloth in its usual place, so I started opening all the drawers in my sewing desk to see if I had inadvertently put it away. This is the drawer that holds shoulder pads and large chunky zips, so I don't open it very often. This is a brown tree snake, commonly known as a night tiger. They won't kill you, but their venom packs a punch, so children, the elderly or people with weak hearts will get pretty sick. The picture doesn't do him justice as they are the most lovely shimmery bronze with a salmon coloured, very glossy belly. Whilst I have no fear of snakes and will happily pick them up and move them, finding this one in my sewing desk made me jump. Glad to see the back of this year ...

I don't have any pictures of my dress or current sewing to show today. Two close deaths this past week have rendered me incapable of much at all. My mother passed away just before Christmas and my oldest and dearest friend, who was closer than any family member, died this past Monday. I do have pictures of the finished dress and the therapeutic sewing I've been doing, but right now I can't be arsed plugging the camera in and uploading. It's hot and humid and I'm too weary, so you'll have to wait until next year. Happy New Year to anyone who might read this. I look forward to a bright and happy 2009 and wish you all the same.
